Built of thick volcanic
stone, the Vervain Mill includes three bedrooms with ensuite baths and
much more.
The first level includes two large bedrooms – one with a queen size
bed and one with twin beds. Each has French doors opening to the lawn
and pool, and each has a private bath.
The stone-walled main floor of the tower, which includes the kitchen
and indoor living/dining room, opens onto a dramatic wraparound
terrace with sweeping views of the Atlantic and of Mt. Nevis. The
large terrace includes sitting and dining areas covered by a series of
flying canopies that provide shade with minimal interruption of the
view.
The third level is an airy bedroom with a queen-size bed and private
bath, and two beautiful arched windows.
The top floor is a sitting room with two daybeds, a writing desk, and
a walkout terrace overlooking the fields and the ocean.
Windows and doors are screened. The house is naturally cooled by its
thick stone walls and a lovely breeze. There is rarely an
uncomfortable night.

The mill’s 1.75-acre
grounds are landscaped with an assortment of palm trees, flamboyant
trees, plumbago and ixora borders, and a ficus hedge. Next to the
mill stands the ruin of the original boiling house, newly planted with
a small orchid garden inside the one standing wall. The swimming pool
has incredible views over pasturelands, up the mountain, and out to
sea. Next to the pool is a gazebo – the perfect place to read
anytime of day or watch sunsets. The gazebo is a very atmospheric
place for a private wedding. Families of monkeys are frequently seen
in the lower yard in the morning or afternoon as they frolic their way
up or down the hill.
Amenities include
private swimming pool, maid service, washer and dryer, internet
connection, VCR, stereo with CD/tape player, and a well-equipped
kitchen. Electricity is 110v. With prior notice, guests can
arrange for a neighbor to prepare wonderful West Indian dinners.
